IMPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is an
innovative concussion program developed to assess a sports related
concussion. Founded by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Sports
Concussion Program, this software system is utilized throughout professional
sports and has been mandated in the NHL. Used by 18 NFL teams, MLB, US
Soccer and countless colleges and high schools across the country, it is
fast becoming the “Gold Standard” in recognizing and managing head injuries.
Additional information can be found at
www.impacttest.com. The test involves an online, computerized exam
that each athlete will take prior to the athletic season.
|
While not used directly for concussion
diagnosis, it is important for each athlete to perform a
baseline IMPACT test. If an athlete is believed to have suffered
a concussion, the baseline exam is used as a tool with further
testing to assist the sports medicine staff and team physician
in determining the extent of the injury, monitoring recovery,
and making a safe return to play decision. These baseline tests
should be done prior to the start of the sport season and before
onset of any contact drills (Note if the athlete has started the
season it is still important to do the baseline testing).
Baseline testing can be done on any computer (Windows or Mac)
and should be performed in a quiet setting free from
interruptions. The computer will require flash player and should
have an external mouse, and use of A/C power. |
 |
Baseline IMPACT tests may be taken through our website for a fee of
$15.00 through Google Checkout. Valid credit information will be required to
be entered before a baseline examination can begin. Once completed these
tests will be stored in a secure, central location and will remain
confidential only to be accessed in the event of a future concussion injury.
Total testing time is approximately 20 minutes.
